He added that the structure of social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter acted as the middleman between users and advertisers, that uses people's private information to leverage profits.\n\nHe said:\n\n\"What we want is a paradigm in which data is transparent, whereby utilities that we use online are working for us and not taken from us.”\n\nHe added that users spend so much time, creativity and energy contributing content to these social media platforms which take all the information along with our private data and putting it behind a wall guard to leverage profits for their shareholders.\n\n\"With Blockchain, we can flip that model so that the data is public and so that our time, energy, attention and creativity are rewarded.\n\n\"We are in a unique moment in time where we can take the Blockchain and the crypto-currency content and apply it to these social networks in a way that creates more synergy between the end-users, the platform and businesses that tap into the platform to get our attention.\"\n\nZambian investor and entrepreneur, Ceaser Siwale, talked on the challenges of transacting across borders in African countries while Bankymoon’s Lorien Gamaroff touched on using the Blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies for crowdfunding and how this will help save huge costs in getting funds to where they are needed.",

      "body": "In a paper published in the journal Nature Wednesday,Eduardo Banados and his colleagues reports that their new find is the oldest and most distant black hole ever discovered\n\n![black-hole_650x400_71512670203.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYJwhBLbnqGcKhUpBhapZ9s3dJo55tRWWGYjUGPGpxqJW/black-hole_650x400_71512670203.jpg)\n\nEduardo Banados had three nights to spot something that might not even exist: a supermassive black hole close to the beginning of time.\n\nAt the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile, perched high atop a mountain in the world's driest desert, he scanned for the signature of a massive, invisible sinkhole in the sky slurping up a whirlpool of brilliant, hot matter.\n\nJust before sunrise on the third night, he found it. Way out at the very edge of the observable universe, there loomed a black hole 800 million times more massive than the sun. The signal had traveled more than 13 billion light-years across time and space to reach Banados' telescope.\n\nIn a paper published in the journal Nature Wednesday, Banados and his colleagues reports that their new find is the oldest and most distant black hole ever discovered.\n\nThe object's size is stunning, Banados said, because it existed just 690 million years after the Big Bang, when the universe was just 5 percent of its current age and still emerging from an enigmatic era known as \"the Dark Ages.\"\n\nThat such a large black hole can exist so early in time will shape models of how black holes form. And it will offer insight into the universe's hard-to-study early years.\n\n\"If the universe was a 50-year-old person,\" Banados explained. \"Now we have a photograph of that person as a toddler . . . when they were two and a half.\"\n\nThe Dark Ages began just a few hundred thousand years after the Big Bang, once the hot particle slurry that constituted the early universe condensed into atoms. The universe was getting bigger and colder in this period, filling up with a featureless fog of hydrogen gas. There were no galaxies, stars or supernovas (which appear when stars explode) - othing that gave off light. The only form of radiation was a very weak hydrogen glow.\n\nThis state of affairs lasted for hundreds of millions of years. Yet sometime during this inscrutable period, the universe as we know it emerged. Gravity pulled hydrogen into the first gas clouds, from which the first stars were born. The radiation from the newly formed objects broke hydrogen atoms apart into their constituent particles - protons and electrons - finally dispelling the chilly fog.\n\nThis process, called \"reionization\" because previously neutral hydrogen atoms became ions with an electric charge, was the last major transition in the universe's history. Understanding the reionization epoch, Banados said, is one of the \"frontiers of astrophysics.\"\n\nThe absence of light sources during the Dark Ages makes it difficult to probe this period with telescopes. The hydrogen fog further complicates matters. Banados says it is as though someone went through the universe's childhood photo album and ripped out all the pictures of its most formative years.\n\n\nBut studying the behavior of the universe's very first quasars - luminous whirlpools of fast-moving, ultrahot particles surrounding supermassive black holes at the centers of galaxies - could shed some light on this inscrutable era.\n\nThat hope is what drove Banados, an astronomer at the Carnegie Observatories in California, to the Chilean mountaintop in March. It was not entirely clear whether he'd be able to find a quasar so far away. Supermassive black holes swallow up huge amounts of matter, squeezing the equivalent mass of several hundred thousand suns into a space so small that gravity wraps around it like an invisibility cloak and causes it to vanish. An object like that needs a long time to grow and more matter than might have been available in the young universe.\n\nBut the object Banados and his colleagues discovered, called ULAS J1342+0928, was even bigger than they'd bargained for - suggesting that something might have made black holes grow more quickly. Scientists don't yet know the underlying reasons for such rapid growth, or whether still older black holes are waiting to be found.\n\n\"This is what we are trying to push forward.\" Banados said. \"At some point these shouldn't exist. When is that point? We still don't know.\"\n\nIn a companion paper published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters, the scientists report another odd finding: The galaxy where ULAS J1342+0928 dwells was generating new stars \"like crazy,\" Banados said. Objects the size of our sun were emerging 100 times as frequently as they do in our own galaxy today.\n\n\"To build stars you need dust,\" Banados said. \"But it's really hard to form all this dust in such little time on cosmic scales - that requires some generations of supernovae to explode.\"\n\nDuring the universe's toddler years, there hadn't been time for several rounds of stars living and dying. So where were the ingredients for all these new stars coming from?\n\nObservations of the light coming from the quasar point to a third curiosity: This object lived when roughly half the universe's hydrogen was still neutral. That places it right smack dab in the middle of the reionization epoch, when the light of the first celestial objects burned away the Dark Ages fog.\n\n\"Maybe we are probing the region now where the first stars and galaxies formed,\" Banados said. The quasar \"is basically a gold mine for follow-up studies of this 2 1/2-year-old universe.\"",

From this lofty perch in near-earth orbit, the drone, which doesn't have a name as yet, will be able to monitor Chinese military movements in the city of Shigatse in Tibet, more than 200 kilometres away, 24 hours a day. It could, in effect, replace surveillance satellites, which need to expend their limited reserves of internal fuel if they are to be positioned over an area of interest to capture high-resolution images.  \n\nDeveloped by NewSpace Research and Technologies, the new drone is the first private sector aircraft to be designed in India. All research and development of the aircraft was done in-house, which is being validated by aerospace major Boeing. The first flight of the aircraft, which falls in the category of a HAPS or High Altitude Pseudo Satellite, is scheduled for 2019. \n\nSources in Boeing have told NDTV that they are deeply impressed with the design of the aircraft in what is at the cutting edge of aerospace engineering. NewSpace hopes to draw from Boeing's vast experience to refine its own design and potentially acquire sensors for the drone before it can be marketed in India and across the world. Sources in both Boeing and the Indian start-up believe the platform can end up being a world-beater.\n\nAt the moment, only a handful of major firms are working on similar systems -- among them Airbus with its Zephyr drone, China's AVIC which is developing a drone called the Morning Star and social networking giant Facebook, which flew its first full-scale UAV, the Aquila, in June last year. London has bought Zephyr drones for ultra-high surveillance while Facebook hopes to use a constellation of Aquilas to beam data at up to 10 gigabytes per second though a breakthrough in laser communications.  \n\nProject developers at NewSpace have told NDTV that their high-altitude drones \"will be an ideal platform which will exploit intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities using interchangeable payloads.\" In simple terms, a variety of pods on the drone will be able to beam still or moving images day or night through infrared (night-vision) or hyperspectral imagery.\" Hyperspectral images provide immensely more detail than normal cameras which acquire images associated with only the primary colours -- red, green and blue. Other than military intelligence applications, images like this can be used commercially \"to help in disaster management, homeland security and smart city management. They will be useful in efficiently managing traffic, roadways and the railways.\"\n\n\nStill, the road ahead will not be easy for NewSpace even with the support of Boeing. NewSpace is now in the process of acquiring high-density Lithium-Sulphur batteries -- closely-guarded technology held by only a handful of firms around the world. These will need to be charged through high-efficiency solar cells to drive the propellers that keep the aircraft afloat.\n\nThere are other challenges. Wind conditions over large parts of India are notoriously fickle. Being able to achieve an altitude of at least 65,000 feet means that operators who will fly the drone through a remote-control link will need to carefully manoeuvre through jet-streams while gradually gaining height. Unlike jet aircraft, which can power through these conditions with brute force, the drone's propellers are driven only by ultra-lightweight electric motors while its wings, which have a span of more than 50 m, are designed to allow the aircraft to coast at high-altitudes, similar to a glider.  The drone is expected to fly no more than 90 or 100 km per hour.\n\nIf NewSpace is succeeds in developing its drone, India may end up acquiring state-of-the-art technology in a field with extraordinary potential over the next two decades.\n\nAccording to those working on the project, \"Near space operations haven't been exploited because of technological challenges. However, in the next two decades, with advancement in technologies like autonomous robotic vehicles, electrical propulsion and artificial intelligence, near-space is going to revolutionise not just warfare but also how we monitor our cities and national interests.\"",

It was more just a surprise that their record win in the Champions League, an 8-0 thrashing of Besiktas in 2007, remained intact on a night when English football was assured of its fifth representative in the last 16 of the Champions League and Jürgen Klopp’s players had a lot of fun sealing their qualification.\n\nBy the end, it had started to feel absurd that Liverpool’s second-half meltdown against Sevilla in their previous Champions League assignment had left their final match in Group E with a precarious feel. It was a deception. Philippe Coutinho had his first hat-trick for the club. The players of Spartak Moscow looked in need of smelling salts and the only slight oddity was that it took until the 86th minute before Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s leading marksman, added his name to an already extensive scoresheet.\n\nBy that stage Sadio Mané had scored twice. Roberto Firmino added the other in that early blitz when Liverpool scored three times inside the opening 19 minutes and there was another statistic that made Klopp beam proudly. No other English team had ever qualified from the Champions League group stages with so many goals – 23 from six games. Not even the great Barcelona and Real Madrid sides had accumulated these numbers. Paris Saint‑Germain, who scored 25 times to qualify this season, are the only side ever to do better.\n\nLiverpool will find out their prize, as group winners, in the draw on Monday, though first there is the small matter of a Merseyside derby. Everton might be sturdier opponents now Sam Allardyce has been parachuted in but, on this evidence, Klopp’s team will take some stopping.\n\nCoutinho, in particular, looked irresistible. Wearing the captain’s armband on a night when Jordan Henderson was relegated to the bench, the Brazilian has been directly involved in 15 goals in his past 11 appearances, scoring nine and setting up another six.\n\nThe only downside for Liverpool was the first-half injury to Alberto Moreno and the fact Emre Can will be suspended from the opening leg of their last-16 match because of the yellow card he received for an early challenge on Zé Luís. Can went into the match knowing a booking would make him ineligible and it was strange, in such a one-sided contest, he felt it necessary to lunge in that way.\n\nThat apart, Liverpool can reflect on a hugely satisfying evening and it would have felt slightly impudent to point out that not even the most optimistic Kopite can expect Everton to defend as generously as the team who are fourth in the Russian Premier League.\n\nGeorgi Dzhikiya’s bewildering challenge on Salah, four minutes in, set the tone, presenting Coutinho with the chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot, and the same Spartak defender carelessly lost the ball to Mané in the buildup to Firmino making it 3-0. In between, Liverpool’s quick, incisive passing had carved open the visiting defence for Coutinho’s second and thereafter it was difficult to keep count of the scoring opportunities.\n\nLiverpool might not have just emulated the Besiktas score – they had enough chances, without exaggeration, to inflict the damage that Stromsgodset endured here in 1974, on the wrong end of an 11-0 whipping in the European Cup Winners’ Cup.\n\nThis was also the night when Coutinho identified himself as the club’s new penalty-taker, ending a difficult run during which Firmino, Salah and James Milner, twice, have failed to convert from 12 yards during games at Anfield in 2017. Yet the game will be remembered for the stylish, attacking football from Liverpool once they had realised their passage to the next stage was not in danger.\n\nThe move for Coutinho’s second goal was particularly illuminating, with Salah and Firmino prominently involved, and there was an even more beguiling exchange of passes later in the first half, spoiled only by Mané’s wild shot. Firmino’s expertly taken finish, after a lucky ricochet off a Russian defender, demonstrated his own high confidence and Liverpool’s attacking quartet never eased off once the game had become a rout.\n\nThe outstanding goal came two minutes into the second half when Milner, who had replaced Moreno, sent over a cross from the left and Mané smashed in a volley with so much power it might have done serious damage to someone in the Kop had it not rocketed into the roof of the net. Coutinho’s hat-trick goal came via a deflection off Salvatore Bocchetti and, with 40 minutes still to play, Liverpool were 5-0 up, closing in on their record win in this competition.\n\nThey could not quite get there but it was a close-run thing. The substitute Daniel Sturridge set up Mané to poke in the sixth goal. Salah rammed in the next one for his 18th goal of the season and Liverpool freewheeled into the knockout stages for the first time since 2009.",
