| body | Great points! One thing I wonder though, is porn a fundamentally unique art form? Unlike sculptures, music, or paintings which are mostly enjoyed individually which reenforces dopamine-releasing brain connections, porn directly influences the important real-world activity of sex which is not an individual activity. It involves someone else. The porn we program ourselves to enjoy does influence our expectations and pleasure response in the real world. If it's an honest representation and the people involved in the real world who genuinely enjoy the process via mutual consent, more power to them all! But that's so far from the norm that I think some shaming may be in order here. Let's try another example: If we have art which represents a certain ethnicity as being subhuman and that art directly influences how people who enjoy that art treat those people, we can directly say, "Hey, that art is immoral. We should shame those who create it and those who enjoy it." The key here, to me, is that it's fundamentally based on a lie. There are no subhuman ethnicities. As you said, "pop" porn creates a fiction that women in pain or at least discomfort are actually experiencing pleasure. It's a lie. Not only is it a lie, it directly influences people in real life. I'd love to know what you think of the post I linked to at to top. She goes into much more detail and quotes professionals in the porn industry to make her point. Porn based on lies about female pleasure does negatively impact real-world human intimacy which, to me, should be shamed because it does directly impact human wellbeing in negative ways. Can we also support positive education about porn which isn't based on lies? For sure! Because things are so far in one direction now, I think a bit of shaming is called for. Many young men, I imagine, don't even know they are "learning" something which will harm them. |

| body | Great post, and good conversation. Here's the thing you have to realize though. Like all good forms of "art" there are many different genres, creators and levels in which you can get your porn in. I agree whole-heartedly with your comments here, but only in relation with "pop" porn. Think of it like music. As with music, porn has it's Pop, Country, Metal, Indie, and all have different flavors while the core is the same. I've come to find porn is the same way, but agree that most the porn is centered around this false dichotomy of male vs female pleasure. Thanks to the internet, is much easier to find the porn that is more true to what real sex, intimacy, is like. I think the education of those consuming has also increased because of this. So my point to all this is you have to be careful with our proposed protests of the industry as there is a whole section that is producing great, honest, porn that you'll alienate at the same time. If I was asked to pick a solution, I would always pick education without insulting. You don't want to alienate the good producers and more than that, you don't want to alienate the consumer because their first reaction would be to reject anything you say. |

| body | A few years back, I was given a tour of a big chicken ranch and noticed off in the distance very colorful hills, ~20 ft high. Upon inquiring what they were, I was told it was old cereal that they use to feed the chickens. Not even the healthy cereal, but rather fruit loops, captain crunch and such. It only took a short amount of time after that before I started sourcing my meat from a local butcher who lists the farms and feeds of all the animals sold. |

| body | I will say that I was predicting Hillary would win. I was not happy about that as I think she is one very evil lady, but I was pretty sure she would win and had been tapped to win. The leaks revealing collusion in the DNC to make her beat Bernie Sanders just further cemented that. I voted third party. I didn't endorse either of them, but had I been forced I would choose Trump over Hillary any day. It also had nothing to do with her gender. I'd choose a random woman off the street before I chose Hillary. I did far too much of my own research on her, and knew she was bad news from actual ACTIONS not simply things that were said. So I was actually pleasantly surprised to see her lose. I was glad to be wrong, though from the way the media lashed out and the way she lashed out, and the hypocrisy involved I believe what I THOUGHT WOULD HAPPEN was actually the plan. It just failed. Perhaps for the first time in a very long time. I could not have predicted the state of affairs we are in now. I see most of their actions as an establishment and its propaganda arm flailing about like wild trying to figure out why it didn't work this time. Their solution, try more of the same type of stuff that failed. |

| body | The only thing we can do to try and predict what actually might happen over the next four years is look back at the past. To do that, we take all the cabinet members Trump has nominated, look at their experience and history and then try to develop a model that is based and historical fact. If you do this, you see a very grim picture for most of the "advancements" the country has made over the past few years a the people are definitely coming in with agendas and bias towards a particular leaning. However, this will not tell us if this is bad or not. Let's take the head of education nomination. The dialogue is she's against public education and wants to destroy it. Is this bad or good? Well, on one hand free education for all is a great concept. On the other the education system itself employees a model to churn out cogs of a wheel who can do little free-thinking. So good or bad? | body | I think you have to also look at the human's ability for compassion. We only have so much energy that can be spent per day and compassion for things outside of our tribe is costly. I think a good question is instead of having human sporadically exert this energy each time something breaks through their firewalls, rightly setup to prevent over taxation of their systems, how do create a constant dialogue using small fragments of that same energy? If you look at the BP oil spill(s) response, I think you see the same level of empathy for all kinds of animals, that do not closely resemble human, as you did with Cecil. Pictures of birds covered in oil, frogs and other far from human species. |

| body | Changing your argument on me? ;) So, there's many pieces that go into the "Cecil" situation. From the fact that first lions, and more, most large animals in Africa have been engrained in the US psyche as endangered. For that matter, most resources outside of the US have been preached as being sacred and should be protected no matter what. You could ask yourself why our media tells us the rainforest is in more need of protection than the Southeast rain forest of the US which we've decimated for our homes and societies. Maybe a way to keep competitors from developing their resources and thus, affecting our economic superiority? But to stay on this topic, yes lions appear to be "vulnerable", I was wrong in thinking they were endangered, but the the question you posed when I referenced "endangered" was around the subjectiveness of our choosing. My counter was there are actual scientific metrics we can look at to determine when an animal actually need protection. Though lions are not yet endangered, but vulnerable, does not mean their population is not declining. It is. And if it continues they will be below that self preservation threshold and thus, a killed lion is counter to what they need to self preservation. However, yes, our reaction as a society is often times projected based on our biases typically formed from our media consumption. A better example would be sharks. Look at how we feel about sharks. They are essentially on the same level of predator as lions, yet we cry when a lion is killed and celebrate when a shark is killed. So my original point, "Cecil" was a bad example as there's scientific evidence that lions need some type of protection and thus, are in need of the human compassion more than other animals. |

| body | Ah, but did it matter because it was "Cecil", a named, known lion within that community? Would it matter more or less if it was just some random lion? We tend to anthropomorphize things and it impacts our morality as well. We feel more concern over a mammal that is killed than, say, a bird because the mammal looks more like us and we're wired that way. The bird (such as a Raven) might be far more intelligent though. They even morn their dead. They are an incredible social species. When I checked, it seems lions are vulnerable, but not fully endangered. Endangered species are killed every day and yet it doesn't create the moral Internet outrage that Cicil did. That's why I think it was valuable to include in the video. It's more about us than it is about the actual animals and that... is weird. |
