      "title": "My 2018 - This is my Hobby: Teaching and Impacting",
      "body": "The best thing you can ever give someone in life is *EDUCATION. We have a lot of uneducated individuals roaming the street looking for means of surviving since there is no one ready to employ an illiterate. Now most of the illiterate are now looking or means of getting the level of education needed to compete with the vast graduates but it is too late for them; TIME **WAITS FOR NOBODY*.\n\n![IMG_20180316_112703.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWvSZ9H3o2bioQpiH7vaw3K3m1W2RYCBmBDk3rEnzaCeq/IMG_20180316_112703.jpg)\nThis and some other reasons are what pushed me into TEACHING. I started teaching 5 years ago beginning with home to home tutorials for the primary school students taking them science subjects like \n>chemistry\n>biology\n>physics\nThis subjects are somehow tough for most students nowadays, but the little knowledge I have, I try impacting in their lives. I started Teaching for the purpose of earning money (there is no reason for me to lie), but now I have found out that teaching is something I love to do even if at the end of the day, I will get nothing out of it.\n\nThe mindset or teaching to get money stopped three years ago. When I discovered that most of the students that usually come for tutorial classes were unable to pay and it was getting close to their exam period. I could not stop thinking from attending tutorials because I know it might affect their results, I was already in love with their progress academically,  so I told them not to bother about the money but to always ensure they come for tutorials. \n\nEven though I was not collecting anything from them, I was pleased teaching them,  their success is my joy. When they finished their exams, I was marveled at the results they brought to me. They came to me with good grades and I could not do anything but cry; a cry of joy. Even after that, most of those owing came back with their money, I told them not to worry about the money but to always ensure they take their academics serious. \n\nSince then, I have made up my mind to always seek the success of my students and not to collect money from them again. So the tutorials I have been doing is free. \n\nNow I have taken teaching as an hobby and I know it has not been easy cos I have even been spending my own personal money for the success of my students. But I believe the end justified the means, so their greatness in life is what I am after. Whatever money I spend now, I know it is an investment which I will get back later in future.\n\nTeaching is something I do everyday  and I love doing it. Each time I teach, what goes on in my mind is how my students will understand what am teaching them. Even my family members and friends have known me to be a busy person, so they do not even bother to disturb me when ever I exercise my hobby. \n\nWhat a coincidence that my hobby is related to a temporary job I took of recent; the job of consultancy. People consult me for advice on fish farming. \n\nI studied Aquaculture and fish management in the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta and since I finished, I have been practicing fish farming with some of my friends who are also interested in the business. So people who saw my success have been prescribing me for those who want to go into fish farming. First let me begin with the definition of Agriculture;\n\n# Agriculture\nThis can be defined as the production of crops and animals for man’s consumption; his nutrition need and other benefits this might bring to him. \n\nThere are two types of agriculture which are **inorganic and organic agriculture**.\n\n## Inorganic agriculture \nThis type of agriculture involves the use of synthesized materials which have been extracted from plants or animals and have been treated with chemicals. This are materials for plant and animal production and usually not environmental friendly as they can cause a lot of detrimental effects to the surroundings.\n\n### Organic agriculture \nThis is a reverse case for inorganic agriculture. It is an agricultural practice that largely excludes the use of synthesized  materials which have been treated with chemials. It is an ecological production system that promotes and embraces biodiversity and biological recycling.\n\nReasons for organic agriculture is based on the following principles which are-\na)\tPrinciple of health: organic agriculture must be able to sustain and enhance the health of animals, plants and human.\n\nb)\tPrinciple of ecology: organic agriculture should be based on living ecological system and must be able to sustain the environment.\n\nc)\tPrinciple of fairness.\n\nd)\tPrinciple of care.\n\n#### Organic livestock husbandry\nOrganic livestock husbandry is based on the harmonious relationship between land, plants and livestock, respect for the physiology and behavioral needs of livestock and the feeding of good quality organically grown feed stuffs.\n\nThe owner of an organic based agriculture system should ensure that:\n•\tThe environment, the facilities, stocking density and flock/herd size provides for the behavioral needs of the animals.\n•\tHousing condition requirement are met in order to ensure easy movement of animals.\n•\tLandless animal husbandry systems are prohibited.\n•\tThe maximum hours of artificial light used to prolong natural day length shall not exceed a maximum that respects the natural behavior and general health of the animals.\n\nConversion period: This is the period  between which organic management and the certification of animals as organic commences. It is usually called LABELLING.\n\nConversion: It is usually required to change the animal husbandry system from conventional to organic production to develop natural behavior, immunity and metabolic functions. It requires that land and animals has to meet appropriate established conversion requirement. Land and animals may be converted simultaneously subject to the requirements for all other land and animal conversion periods.\n\nAnimal’s sources/origin: Organic animals are born and raised on organic holdings. They should be raised organically from birth. Although when organic livestock is not available, conventional animals may be brought in according to the following age limits:\na.\t2days old chicken for meat production.\nb.\t18weeks old hens for egg production.\nc.\t2weeks for any other poultry.\nd.\tPiglets up to 6weeks and after weaning.\ne.\tDaily calves up to 4weeks old that have received colostrum and are fed a diet consisting full milk.\n\nAlso breeding stock may be brought in from conventional farm to a yearly maximum of 10% of the adult animals of the same species on the farm. Allow for exception of more than 10% shall be limited to:\na)\tUnforeseen severe natural or man-made events:\nb)\tEstablishment of a new type of animal production on the farm.\nc)\tHolding with less than 10 animals.\nd)\tConsiderable enlargement of the farm.\n\nProduction conversion period for meat, dairy and eggs are 12months, 90days and 42days respectively.\nBreed and breeding: the goals of breeding should be such that it encourages and maintain the good health and welfare of the animals. Breeding systems should be based on breeds that are adapted to local conditions and can reproduce successfully under natural conditions. Embryo transfer techniques and hormones to induce ovulation and birth are usually prohibited in organic livestock husbandry.\n\n##### Mutilations\nDuring selection, breeds and species that do not require mutilation should be selected as mutilations are prohibited. The following exceptions for mutilation is done when suffering is minimized and anesthetic are used where appropriate: castration, tail docking, de-horning, ringing, mulesing. \n\n###### Animal nutrition\nOrganic animals should be fed from organic forage and feed of good quality. A balanced diet should be offered to meet the nutritional needs of the animals to enable them exhibit their natural feeding and digestive behavior. Ruminants should not be fed diet that entirely consists of silage and concentrates. Therefore there should be a limit in the feeding of non-organic feed. Non-organic feed is given only if there is inadequate organic feed and feed should not exceed 10% dry matter per ruminant and 15% dry matter per non-ruminant. The following substances should be prohibited in their diet:\na.\tFarm animal by-products.\nb.\tPreservatives except when used as a processing aid.\nc.\tAmino-acid isolates.\nd.\tUrea and other synthetic nitrogen compounds.\ne.\tArtificial coloring agents.\n\nAlso organic animals may be fed vitamins, trace elements and supplements from natural sources and should have access to roughage (ruminants). Fodder preservatives such as by-products of food industry, bacteria, fungi and enzymes may be used.\nVeterinary medicine:\nIn organic livestock husbandry, all practical measures should be taken to ensure the health and well-being of all the animals through preventive animal husbandry practices. When an animal becomes sick or injured, that animal should be separated from the rest and treated promptly and adequately. Chemical veterinary drugs or antibiotics should be used only if\na)\tPreventive and alternative practices are not effective.\nb)\tThey are used under the supervision of a veterinarian\nc)\tWithholding periods should not be less than double of that required by legislation.\n\nAlso vaccinations are allowed when: - legally required, disease is known and is not genetically engineered.\n\nTransport and slaughter:\nOrganic animals should be handled carefully and gently during transport for slaughter and be provided with conditions during transport and slaughtering that reduces and minimizes adverse effects of stress, loading and unloading, quality and suitability of mode of transport and handling equipment.
