bodyNoticeably with the steady advancement, and development of technology, graphics and concepts of games people in general tend to create avatars that may reflect the desires, perception of themselves among a number of things. Communication comes in many forms the physical characteristics is an external expression of feelings since the avatar physical traits can be manipulated to desire. Additionally, when people create avatars sometimes subconsciously people are communicating about themselves, and how they want others to view them in any number of manners from strong & brave to simple & plain. Additionally,Levine (2009) writes "When I play this big guy, everybody listens to me," she says. "Nobody argues with me" is a form of external expression that people use with avatars. I think virtual worlds depends on the people participating if positive influence will happen or the continued perpetuation of stereotypes, because I have observed from looking at videos on YouTube with virtual gaming some videos shows people coming together dialoguing respectfully while others are perpetuating stereotypes. Even other forms of stereotypes take form where people attribute stereotypes to avatars in the virtual world such as the is video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoJJOrR4wj8 I think virtual worlds perpetuate stereotypes due to the fact people can create the avatar they see fit, and if connected to a headset they can talk trash plus do other things with little to no consequence plus set a fake profile so some people may not even know it is behind the scene. Me personally I haven't played a video game since I was 18 years old about 2004, however for class discussion purposes I have watched some videos on YouTube that seem to have a trend of stereotyping. The nonverbal communication in the YouTube videos seem to imply people's personal notions of what they think or deem important, and people should pay attention to it's the silent communication kind of like getting dressed real fancy not asking anyone to compliment you or say nice things but the dress clothing implies for people to do so. bodyI think that entertainment in relation to wilderness, and that various aspects of reality can become overly emphasized or understated. I feel as though in my opinion many experts are still discovering things everyday that changes the already established fact thus in lieu of wilderness researcher in my opinion are constantly updating information like a social media post. I think that Cronon would say about Disney's attitude in relations to the wilderness is that Disney may do it's best to demonstrate a perspective of wildlife, but may things are not what they seem when it comes to wilderness (Cronon, 1995). Additionally, Cronon thoughts maybe that looking to wilderness may not be a solution to our culture's problematic relationship to the non-human world (Cronon, 1995). Furthermore, Disney's "Bambi" movie has a lot of influence over the American culture to the point that the American attitudes in regards to the understanding of the wild animals and wildlife help against hunting of wildlife (Lutts, 1992). One of the key features of Disney's "Bambi" film is the hunter scene or the death of Bambi's mother that caused a lot of controversy among hunter supporters (Lutts, 1992) the shock of the scene elaborates upon Cronon's point of the problematic relationships between human and nonhuman (Cronon, 1995). I'm have to say I think that Lutts has a point to a certain degree, but overall I disagree with him in hindsight "Bambi" is a film that try to make the understanding of wildlife and wilderness as a whole simple enough for the average viewer to see how the wilderness works maybe even to a degree from an animal perspective if animal brains are studied further in the future. We can harmonize people's visions with nature by accepting a universal truth of reality. Realizing that human beings are apart of nature just like animals that we all play role. Human beings have been severely affected by modernity in which with human ingenuity many have lost touch with nature unlike the indigenous tribes that respect nature, and the cycles of life. Additionally, in different people’s opinions perception becomes reality it is how individuals see the world or the wilderness, and the wildlife that is the reality I would say that “Bambi” is the perception of Disney in which there were artist in the wilderness drawing along with studying in order to be as accurate as possible. Harmonizing visions of what is actually seen in nature will take education, and practice of being in the moment accepting reality refraining from judgement. Reference: 1.) Lutts, R. H. (1992). bodyWhen the population increase there is an demand of resources that must meets those needs for the quality of life to be sustained dealing with food plus water as a resource. Furthermore, the cattle that is raised to help with some of the food resources such as Cows that produce milk or some of the dairy products, also need to be feed and taken care of so the strain of the food resources in which the United States government along with agricultural organizations plus too food companies have devised ways in meeting the needs of the food supply demand. A couple solutions to the food supply demand is the genetically modified foods, and precision agriculture in which farmers can both use biotechnology to make optimum food that produce more efficiently in a timely manner as well as use precision technological systems to pinpoint the best areas to produce crops for the best results. According to GMO Compass it states," No-tillage practice in combination with GM HT crops and the corresponding plant protection products have improved growers’ ability to control competing weeds, reducing the need for mechanical soil cultivation and seedbed preparation. Farmers are able to plant into a vegetative cover crop without any prior cultivation, shortening production cycles". Additionally, in a farmers and government perspective GMO food have many benefits that will help answer the food demand, however many holistic practitioners also the people the that follow the lifestyle have their concerns on the health quality. Next, precision agriculture has made farming much more efficient according to the dot com website "Accenture" the site states," Precision Agriculture Service helps farmers gather and cross correlate a wide range of critical data to make meaningful and timely operating decisions that can enhance yield and profitability. Designed for developing countries and smallholder farmers, the Accenture Connected Crop Solution can enable agro-input providers to boost field agent productivity and help farmers improve yields by providing fertilizer, pesticide, and seed recommendations personalized for each farmer’s land and needs". bodyAs I continue to journey through life learning as much as I can most noticeably doing things in a combination of sequences, and repetitions memory seems to develop creating neurological pathways for the brain to retrieve memory. My parents always told me that the brain is a muscle so like any muscle it gets stronger with exercise. Furthermore, memory is not only a individualized, but it is also to cultural influencing the group of people in a particular culture. In addition, individuals coming together make families than families create nations in which what affect an individual sometimes affect a nation. Additionally, dealing with memory if something significant enough such as war, and a trending event or topic like Steve Harvey mistake in 2015 beauty pageant may cause a number of individuals to internalize and memorize such events in essence those individual's memories will shape and mold the cultural memory. To me cultural memory help connect people born in different generations, and eras bridging the gap for example many people that grew up in the late 50's to late 60's either knew of or heard of the Honorable Minister Malcolm X so after his assassination the generations of people may not be familiar so with the influence of hip hop group "Public Enemy" rapper Chuck D was able to take a figure in history then put that into his lyrics helping to bridge the cultural memory of civil rights along with black-self determination. According to Richard Mencken he states,"Cultural memory is formed by symbolic heritage embodied in texts, rites, monuments, celebrations, objects, sacred scriptures and other media that serve as mnemonic triggers to initiate meanings associated with what has happened. Also, it brings back the time of the mythical origins, crystallizes collective experiences of the past and can last for millennia. Therefore it presupposes a knowledge restricted to initiates". It seems as though cultural memories crossover to other forms that help keep the memory in history for instance literature. Literature presents cultural memories in various perspective those views become great literary work with the likes of Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin" that captures a piece of history which was slavery depicting the harsh realities of what slaves had to go through as well as Americans that had any type of moral value that faced conflicting with slavery. Additionally, the central character Tom is portrayed as a strong, moral, and upright slave going through slavery which also help influence culture by aiding the fuel of the abolitionist cause during the 1850s. So the novel captured cultural memory laid it into a understanding from the writer's viewpoint in which ironically influences culture from the 1850s to 2010s which is ironic to me. "Literary studies has shown how memory is represented in poetry, drama, and fiction. Metaphors of memory, the narrative representation of consciousness, the literary production of mnemonic space and of subjective time are some of the key issues in literary studies’ engagement with memory. From a narratological viewpoint, it is interesting to note that the distinction between an “experiencing I” and a “narrating I” already rests on a (largely implicit) concept of memory, namely on the idea that there is a difference between pre-narrative experience on the one hand, and, on the other, narrative memory which creates meaning retrospectively. The occupation with first-person narrators is thus always an occupation with the literary representation of individual remembering. Referring to these and other literary forms, and using Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield (1850) as an example, Martin Löschnigg subsumes under the term “rhetoric of memory” those narrative means with which the illusion of authentic autobiographical remembering is created" (Astrid Erll, 2011). In many ways literary representation of historical events help create our sense of cultural identity in numerous ways. First, the actual historical event being described from the writer's interpretation will mold the audience's cultural identity such as when a group of people or a nation such as Spain they are not going to write about the negative history loses or immoral behavior they are going to write about their accomplishments, victories, and contributions to the world like architecture which creates cultural pride that people of Spain will have a sense of pride. Another depiction of literary work influencing cultural identity is the great literature by Booker T. Washington entitled "Up From Slavery" is an autobiographical account of a slave child in the time of civil war facing many obstacles to getting an education at "Hampton University" Washington opened up vocational schools such as "Tuskegee Institute" teaching other black people to pull themselves up. Booker T. Washington literary work has influenced the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey in which inspired a continuous generations of black people culturally giving a sense of pride, hope, and determination with self-reliance and helping each other as well. Literature that is structured sometimes when divided causes parts of cultural memory to be restricted thus limiting knowledge sometimes participation as well kabbala being selective opposed to Judaism which allows for participation (Assmann, 2008). In hindsight, when specific events take place the individuals that witness the event form memories that often if enough individuals conceive those memories becomes cultural memories often translate to literature that connect people from different generations creating cultural identities from African slavery to the conquests of Spain and their victories. bodyAs with any tragic event in history or in current times the re-telling of the event may vary from person to person in which details may be left out that can take away from the recount of the event. Furthermore, interpretation of a tragic event becomes very critical in that the re-telling of the event which people would argue needs to reflect the common theme of the people in the tragic event. Experience is one of the great teachers of many different lessons, and experience allows a person to give an authentic account of an event. To represent a story, or event authentically the teller of the event should reflect the moral and ideological capacity to give an accurate assessment of the event. The Holocaust is one of the worse that has taken place in human history. The Holocaust is an event that contains some of the horrendous crimes committed against humanity, and it is a story that is almost impossible to represent in film. In addition, the victims plus the descendants of the victims can only truly give a sincere analysis of the trauma the Holocaust did to the people. Many people can tell what happened about a specific event, but only a few can represent the event in such a manner that the audience can comprehend the message. My position on the representation of the Holocaust is that people can only do their best from the facts that are presented, and also to it should be noted that in general people will find ways to disagree on any topic to me Steven Spielberg did his best to take the audience to the center of the Holocaust invoking thought on a deeper level dealing with social conditions and human rights. Various research, and studies suggest that images have a greater influence on the brain thus when events become depicted on cinema it reaches a large audience with capacity of being highly remembered like when a football player makes an incredible play for a touchdown people see that then mimic the behavior and/or talk about for ages to come. In addition, people can read about Kobe Bryant's last basketball game or if people seen them game the influence of such visualization translate into business the selling of shirts & jerseys, endorsement deals that reflect Kobe Bryant's last game in the NBA. According to Roger Dooley he states that,"Researchers at the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand showed that statements about a celebrity being alive or dead were judged to be accurate more often when they were accompanied by photos of that celebrity. While the celebrity was, of course, alive when photographed, the scientists found that the photos didn’t produce and “alive bias.” A statement that the celebrity was dead was also judged as true more often when accompanied by the photos, showing that the photos produced a “truth bias". Using imagery I think that steven Spielberg did a great job in depicting the Holocaust, but since cinema has an time standard to follow a lot of specific detail was left out in which the film can be scrutinized. I would say it is sort of subjective it depends on the crowd or audience that watches Steven Spielberg's "Schindler's List" that determines if it represent the Holocaust accurately or not. I feel that throughout the generations from literature, film, and television that Holocaust have been interpreted through many different perspectives to the point there is an version from children to adults to give the audience a broader scope of the monstrous actions that took place. Each representation of the holocaust like from a young woman perspective helps the audience to a degree feel what it is like for a young woman to experience the Holocaust same thing if it was an elderly man the point is the testimony of people affected by the Holocaust represent their version helping the audience experience the holocaust from a standpoint of what the victims had to endure. Next, the Holocaust is one those events that is arguably the most talked about events in modern history, and the many different accounts of the event I must say that I think the Holocaust is represented fully due to various reasons such as journals from the Holocaust victims, pictures, testimonies from survivors, and the outside cultures written accounts of the Holocaust. So if we truly think about it the Holocaust has a lot written about it, and much of the written literature correlates with each other. It is a slippery slope trying to represent the Holocaust in a honorable way when the event has so much negative. A person that seeking to represent the holocaust in a honorably way would have to focus on lives that fight other lives human rights, how people saved each other, and also to how some of the people defended themselves and others. Additionally, I must say I feel as though any tragic event can not be really honored, but it can be remembered for cultural identity plus historical reasons. To me the purpose to represent the Holocaust or any other tragic event is to create media outlets to never let your culture forget so it won't repeat itself, and to present solutions in case such an event ever take place again. There are a few people that oppose, and say that the Holocaust can honorably represent victims in in different forms from holidays, museums, literature, film, and compensation for crimes against humanity. My question to the those people that feel the Holocaust represented in a honorable way would be is it a honor or lessons to be learned that represent the Holocaust? In retrospect, Steven Spielberg did an excellent job with the facts he had to work with to produce the Holocaust film in which millions of lives were affected by it that is in its self accomplishment to sparks conversation which lead to some sort of understanding between many cultures. I personally no horrific event can be represented in a honorable way to me it is more like to represent an tragic event to never forget, and repeat the same mistakes plus take the lessons learned then apply them. \n\nThere are a few people that oppose, and say that the Holocaust can honorably represent victims in in different forms from holidays, museums, literature, film, and compensation for crimes against humanity. \n\nReference: \n\n1.) http://www.neurosciencemarketing.com/blog/articles/persuade-with-pictures.htm \n\n2.) https://content.ashford.edu/books/AULIB316.11.1/sections/sec6.3?search=holocaust#w94158 \n\n3.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEY0dQAF4k4",

bodyIn the political arena sometimes the effects of war go unnoticed by politicians, and various significant figures all for an agenda that may or may not be justified. There is a wide range of effects war has on soldiers such as emotional distress, physical injuries, and psychological health to name a few. Through meticulous observation Remarque "All Quiet on the Western Front" does a nice job of highlighting soldiers the change a soldier goes through both during, and post-war. Furthermore, soldiers in their minds go through flashbacks of memories or even seek a place of refuge to forget some of the experience during war. War is seen as such a harsh type of environment so some soldiers create pictures in their mind to sort of find a place of peace. "I often become so lost in the play of soft light and transparent shadow, that I almost fail to hear the commands. It is when one is alone that one begins to observe Nature and to love her. And here I have not much companionship, and do not even desire it. We are too little acquainted with one another to do more than joke a bit and play poker or nap in the evenings. Alongside our camp is the big Russian prison camp. It is separated from us by a wire fence, but in spite of this the prisoners come across to us" (Remarque, 1929). The soldiers during war become use/immune to extreme conditions, and that over time alter a soldier's perception and self-identity which can be seen by others through the soldier's actions. Over the course time soldiers in general become numb to horrific events, and it is in a sense becoming desensitized almost normal to see death it happens so much as described in Remarque passages with the soldiers teasing the cook for a deceased man food. When soldiers go through extreme conditions together it builds a bond in addition many are taught the wingman concept to never leave a soldier behind I feel as though Remarque pointed that out, and showed how it affects soldiers when they are out of war the disconnect from civilian life and the loved ones as well. "I am young, I am twenty years old; yet I know nothing of life but despair, death, fear, and fatuous superficiality cast over an abyss of sorrow. I see how peoples are set against one another, and in silence, unknowingly, foolishly, obediently, innocently slay one another. I see that the keenest brains of the world invent weapons and words to make it yet more refined and enduring. And all men of my age, here and over there, throughout the whole world see these things; all my generation is experiencing these things with me. What would our fathers do if we suddenly stood up and came before them and proffered our account? What do they expect of us if a time ever comes when the war is over? Through the years our business has been killing;--it was our first calling in life" (Remarque, 1929). Remarque presents a imagery in the minds of the reader on how war memories constructs a soldier postwar identities by showing a systematic process. The stripping down of a person to a rebuild with military core values, standards, and ideologies that basic training provides. A disciplined institution, a highly structured environment that military has, the experience of traumatic experiences in war, and the transitioning to civilian life have adverse effects on many soldier's lives. According to David Wood, "But now the cascade of combat veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars is forcing mental health practitioners to a new recognition: the effects of combat trauma extend far beyond the traditional and narrow clinical diagnoses of PTSD and traumatic brain injury (TBI). The current crop of veterans is at risk of a “downward spiral” that leads to depression, substance abuse and sometimes suicide, as Eric Shinseki, secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, said in a recent speech. Almost a quarter million Iraq or Afghanistan vets have been diagnosed with mental health injuries from combat service. Many more are not diagnosed, yet go on with their lives while experiencing short-term memory loss, headaches, insomnia, anger or numbness — conditions that can range from merely annoying to highly disruptive on the job and within the family". In addition, the feeling that people don't relate to you and/or you don't relate to people in the general civilian population can add insult to injury for many veterans. With the discipline structure of the military is part of many soldiers identity, and that when in post-war some soldiers use their military discipline to take on massive amounts of work or job duties to mask some of the pain and experiences. I observe cultural memory can be definitively interpreted as events or experiences that has to be remembered that has the ability to be transferred one generation to another generation. According to Jan Assmann (2008) "Cultural memory is a kind of institution. It is exteriorized, objectified, and stored away in symbolic forms that, unlike the sounds of words or the Communicative and Cultural Memory 111 sight of gestures, are stable and situation-transcendent: They may be transferred from one situation to another and transmitted from one generation to another". The resemblance of things such as objects that bring a soldier memory back to a certain thing such as bomb fragments, weapons, and shell casings from rounds being fired off during war like when Remarque drawn imagery when the character Paul is stunned by a trolley that joogs the memory of shell casings. Due to each soldier having different experience it is difficult to understand the totality of soldier's experiences with war with bonds that built with other soldiers, and the structure that the military instill then either visiting home or adapting to civilian life. The human brain has a process with memory that induces chemical changes so the memories of war play a vital role having physical sensations to mental syndromes that is all connected in a soldier self-identity plus how the world & they view themselves. I would say in addition to soldiers a culture's identity, and memory collectively is greatly affected by war such the United States & Russia cold war many movies, books, and website have been created that help shape and mold a segment of American society. The Vietnam war has an effect on the both American soldiers, and American culture that has been engraved our history with Muhammad Ali religious stance on war, into Marvin Gaye hit song "Mercy MercyMe", and different social conscious groups that rose up against the Vietnam war which all is the memory of the people good or bad. In essence, war not only affect soldiers themselves, but society enlarge in various ways ranging from mentality, to physically like radiation in Hiroshima, and cultural in music/film/literature. Also, note that war memories affect historical content depending on the culture, group, or individual telling the story. Reference: 1.) Remarque, Erich Maria (1929). All Quiet on the Western Front. bodyEthical Question: Is killing/lethal Force Ethically Wrong From New Recruit Perspective joining The Military? Growing up in my life I was raised in a way such a way that my morals, principles, and ethics are of a variety perspectives some based on religion and some based on different cultures such as Belizean, African, and Old American culture. Even though I don't subscribe to particular religion some of the base fundamentals ethical judgements or assumptions can be attributed to religion in fact I went to both a Catholic, and Christian middle school. After high school I observed that even though I went to different schools of thought growing up, but it was not until a couple years after graduation of high school I realized the different denominations in the various schools of thought and religion. I have faced many different situations that challenged my ethical judgements such as a time joining the military or not, because it may require the use of lethal force killing someone and I was on the fence on that ethical judgment based on my ethical upbringing. So I spoke with my grandfather that was a korean, and Vietnam war veteran plus he was a Pastor so we talked about the situations that may occur which would call for the use of lethal force. My grandfather and I argued for about couple hours for the simple fact I felt it a person was a hypocrite following religion and serving in the military knowing that killing someone has a strong chance of happening if deployed pus how can someone have a conscious after killing someone. The Bible, and even Buddhism it talks about karma, and not killing someone which is some of my ethical fundamental foundation. My grandfather and I went to the bible, and started showing me some scriptures on war in the and how for the tribe of Israel to survive and do as God commands to keep sort of like an oath with God if you will. My grandfather interpretation kind of opened my view of the ethical judgment on killing my grandfather point was even if we feel some type about something sometimes feelings is not reality and we are to look out for the best interest for our country such as the United States also to think about the many lives we protect & defend by serving in the military. In addition, to my grandfather talking to me also learning about deontology theory from a military perspective I have grown more understanding and in agreement with some of the military ethics. (Next, to broaden things a bit, do you think that it’s possible for us to progress and come to greater consensus on our ethical views, despite the way that modern society is often portrayed as increasingly in conflict?) I feel as though it is not possible for us as a people in general to come to consensus on our ethical views for numerous reasons. First, even though people may have similar upbringing with similar ethical views that fact remain everyone is different with various interpretations of anything. Next, people in a particular nation, but because of diversity we as a people have many different culture that have ethical views that may drastically differ. Furthermore, as studying history in relation to both political and military science it has been a struggle with people ethical views so depending on the perspective some people may feel one thing is ethical while others may feel differently such as the elite/ruling class of people oppressing a select segment of people. Additionally, some people may say the 3-strikes law may be unethical while others feel it is just. Since everyone has an opinion we won't come to consensus of ethical views thus leadership, government, and so on that becomes a voice which politicians is suppose to do speak for the people noticeably majority rules while the minority have to endure the rule. bodyWould Aristotle consider someone hooked into the experience machine truly happy? From my perspective my view is that Aristotle would not agree that someone engaged in the "Experience Machine" to be truly or honestly happy. To my degree of understanding Aristotle did not see happiness as some synthetic experince manufactured in some laboratory, but rather an organic experience that a person can enjoy throughout life in the first person view. In Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle he says,"Now such a thing happiness, above all else, is held to be; for this we choose always for self and never for the sake of something else" (1931, pg. 7). My humble opinion on the topic at at hand is that not even if the experience is negative it's a lesson to be learned, and that lesson can translate into happiness further down the future. Plus happiness comes in many forms that in its bests form it is something organic, and not synthetic such as people taking pictures or doing video for social media to get likes/shares to me is fake synthetic happiness which is a short term desire. Additionally, living life in the moment having the organic experience is the type of experience that produce chemical change within the human body that induces euphoria which is considered to various reach as the optimum happiness such live music, winning a sports championship, getting married, and etc. If you had the chance to be permanently hooked up to the experience machine, would you do it? Personally I would ask for a program to be placed in the experience machine for me to know what it feels like to be extremely wealthy. I think the type of experience I may have could be both superficially satisfying, and lonesome at the sametime. The experience would only give a sense of false happiness, because to my very limited knowledge of life is that the best things are the things that come with struggle due to the appreciation once obtain. I would not consider being extremely wealthy a worthwhile experience, because the experience is only superficial and if I'm not happy with myself or appreciate the things I do have then nothing else will make me organically happy. Plus from my own personal life things that come ease also go easy case, and point an individual can obtain a large sum of money, but with no financial literacy that money is disposed of then its back at square one. Based on what you said so far, do you think that people can be wrong about happiness? Does your answer align with Aristotle's view of happiness? Why or why not? The thing is happiness can be subjective to me it is based on an individual bases, and each person experience is different. Furthermore, some people feel materials pleasures such as brand new car, clothes, house, and jewelry plus status in society is happiness while others feel helping other people, having love the community, being self-reliant, and investing in substantial things is happiness so to me it is bias to the individual. My answer seem to align with Aristotle for one main reason like in most fields experience is the best teacher, and to me happiness is something best done organically just like lifting weights a person can take steroids then get big for a short term satisfaction then later in life the effects of false satisfaction begin to manifest in negative ways so it is best to work hard and do it the natural organic right way which last longer plus feel happier. The end results of living the experience trumps fake experience any day to me. Reference: 1.) Aristotle. (1931). Nicomachean ethics (W. D. Ross, Trans.).
