I am a very caring, passionate, dedicated, and personable female nutrition and fitness advocate. There are many individuals in my city who are constantly working on their physical appearance and have amazing transformations, whether they are doing a competition or not. However, there seems to be a gap between the drastic physical transformations and the limited mental transformations. Where even though these women and men make drastic improvements to their health, they still look in the mirror they still often continue to see their flaws and things that they need to work on rather than love everything that they have worked for. Maybe there are those who are out there that are just amazing confident and love themselves always. But holy… I have seen way more that are not My Journey We have not officially met yet but I hope that one day we can. I would quickly like to tell you my story. I would like to explain to you what you are about to go through. So, I became inspired to reach out to you today. I moved to my city in 2009 and fell in love with it instantly. The beauty of the landscape, the amazing and inspired people, the small town culture and the amazing academic opportunities offered at the university amazed me. After five years, I completed an Honours degree in Psychology. The year I graduated was also the year I was introduced to the amazing benefits of weight lifting. It was also the year I competed in my first Bikini Competition. When I decided to compete in this competition I made a stand. I told myself that I was going to do it the right way. I was going to eat enough and remain physically healthy throughout the entire process. I ate clean, I did not take any additional supplements or fat burners, and I refused to go hungry. If I needed to stray from my meal plan in order to enjoy a family dinner, socialize with friends, deal with life, I would do just that. Flexibility was key After 3 months of solid preparation with the help of a personal trainer to teach me about weight lifting, my body was ready for the competition. However, my mind was not. Every time I looked in the mirror I did not think I was ready. Every time I ate something against my meal plan I still felt I was going to gain weight. And every time someone complimented me I would not accept it. I recall a moment when I had to take progress photos and I was crying because I thought I was not lean enough. The funny thing is that when I look at those photos now I cannot believe it. I was so lean that I looked like I had an eating disorder. I did not realize I was struggling until my personal trainer started to teach me how to pose. I kept looking in the mirror and no matter how many times she told me I looked great. I felt like crying. I remember a moment where I wouldn’t even take my shirt off because I was having a “fat” day. A FAT DAY at 150 Pound and 18% body weight ?! That should not even be allowed to be said. These moments were when I became very aware. I realized that I had to personally work on battling those negative thoughts and mental struggles. I had achieved my ideal body and was still hating myself. After so many years of wishing for “Private Practice” arms and a lean torso… I still cried when I looked in the mirror. The Mental Challenge was harder than the Physical Challenge As a highly educated individual in the field of psychology, I had mentally prepared for the scary after-effects. I new there was going to be a lot of disordered thinking, Body Dysmorphic symptoms, and depression. They all came with losing the ideal body I trained so hard to get on that stage. Fitness Competitions are not bad I am not someone who believes fitness competitions are bad. I believe competitions can be amazing IF a woman is mentally prepared for how the process works. I also believe that the most important thing anyone can take away from the competition is the confidence you learn to have. You learn how to love being in your own skin with barely any clothing on for gods sake!! I was asked to help work with a group of female bikini athletes who are competing in an upcoming show a few years after I did mine. I have been a coach and mentor for youth for many years and my only goal in life is to be able to help other’s to discover their best selves. Half the battle on stage is that most girls are not portraying their authentic selves in front of the judges. They may hit their front pose and back pose. But they do not stand out as individuals with a purpose other than being in a bikini. The power that comes with self-confidence is what makes a winner stand out from the crowd, whether that be in a bikini competition or in daily life. I am not sure if I wanted to call my services “Posing Classes” There was a lot more involved. We focused on building self – confidence, eliminating negative self –talk, embracing the power of female sexuality while laughing and having fun. All I wanted to do is help women feel comfortable in their own skin. I want them to be able to own their new bodies that they worked so hard to achieve. I want to be that person to help them realize their potential and face themselves in the mirror and practice self-love. Most people tend to focus on the external world to validate their beauty but at the end of the day if we don’t love ourselves and our bodies then what do we have? Love yourself no matter what I hope that as you continue on your journey to do a fitness competition you keep this in mind. You remember that it is not just about your body fat percentage, or your muscle definition. It is about the journey you take to maintain that confidence. That confident have worked so hard at finding. No matter what happens, no matter what place you get on that stage, you must come out the other side loving your mind, body, and soul. Because the battle you will face when the physical changes happen is when that love is going to shine through the most. Your body may not be stage ready all the time. But your mind can always be if you train it ♥ I cannot wait to hear about the journey of discovery you made. I wanted to believe that we could be friends after but I have come to realize that it does not work. Every time we cross paths, the pain and sadness from our history takes a shot at my heart because I could not help but let you own a piece. Even after it was all over I let you hold onto my heart because I thought you deserved the love I had for you even after the way things ended. Whatever we had … it was real for the time that we spent together. When we ended things – I thought I finally was strong enough to move on – but when the universe kept aligning our paths again and again every single time I was on the brink of moving on … I feel all of my strength disappear under your presence. The unexpected tears and painful heartache I endured after being around you is just not worth it anymore. I no longer am going to let my old feelings of rejection, abandonment and anxiety determine the outcome of my future relationships. I am forever grateful that you came into my life for the time that you did. You taught me the amazing power of patience in times of struggle. You taught me to stay true to my health values no matter what people say. And the biggest one of all is that you forced me to love myself because no matter how much I wanted you to… you couldn’t be that person for me. One thing is for sure – I will always care about you but I am done loving you. Today was the last day I considered you a friend. It does not matter if you are a meat-eater, plant-based eater, vegetarian, or vegan. No matter the food you choose to eat, it is important to add many ingredients into your meals. When I adopted a vegan lifestyle I was introduced to such amazing and unique ingredients. I had seen many of the ingredients on blog posts before however, I did not realize their importance until I eliminated meat. The lack of vitamin B’s I was getting meant I needed to find them somewhere else. These types of food are classified as “super foods” because they have added health benefits that a standard meat, vegetable and carb diet just does not have. …There was a shift I noticed that when I added these Super Hero ingredients into my recipes, my body responded positively and I was no longer concerned about missing meat in my diet. It took a lot of strolling around the local food market, Pinterest searching, and blogger inspiration but I managed to find great and innovative ways to introduce an abundance of super foods into my diet. Based on some trial and error I am very proud of some of my recipe creations. I have discovered the ultimate breakfast bowl that gives me the best start to the day and I thought I would share. It also is full of fun, unique, and delicious flavours that stray away from your typical oatmeal, dried fruit, and cinnamon combo that is mostly carbs and fast energy… and lacks the protein and extra unique nutrients necessary to get your day started off with as much long lasting energy as possible! Embrace a breakfast routine that works for you and hold true to it as much as possible. However, breakfast can be quite a challenging meal for people to adhere to but it truly is the most important meal of the day. Nourish your body and you will be rewarded with higher energy levels and all the benefits that come with increasing your antioxidant intake. Is it even possible to eliminate it completely?** I am currently a single 25 year old female exploring the world of dating and to be completely honest… I hate it. There are so many tools out there to be used to meet a potential partner. We have Tinder, Bumble, Facebook, and Instagram… just to name a few platforms that I have been hit on with. It is becoming sad that at this age we are becoming more dependent on these technology tools rather than letting things unfold organically. I have had my fair share of dates over the past year and the stories that have come from them range from completely god awful to heartbreakingly amazing. The most common line I hear first in this dating world is “I am not ready for a relationship”. At first it is frustrating because it is like these men are putting up an emotional wall before even giving us women a chance to just engage in a real interaction. What I take from the whole “I am not ready” thing is that what they really are saying is I don’t want to make you a priority… Its almost a slap in the face saying that before they even get to know you they automatically assume you want them and are willing to sacrifice yourself to be with them. *Timing is Everything… and Tinder is ruining It* I personally am not ready for a relationship either but I do believe that if I meet someone and there is a sense of comfort and a space provided where I can be myself… then why put up stupid barriers. You know from the moment you meet someone whether it is going to be something more. These tinder dates are interesting. Text messaging conversations can be great and you create this idea of who you think you are going to find when you meet face-to-face. However, the majority of the time it is the opposite to what you expect. The majority of the time it is a disappointment… for both parties. And sometimes… you meet someone who you had no expectations for and they come in and turn your world upside down. Really – you just don’t know what you are going to get. We are all fighting the natural unravelling of time. Timing is everything and Tinder is ruining our Cinderella stories because we are being forced to meet our Prince Charming (or Beautiful Princess) at the wrong time in our lives. **Keep the ones who make you feel like you** It is completely possible to enjoy someone’s presence and want to spend time with them but you cannot FORCE a relationship to occur. I am a strong believer that a relationship occurs naturally when the timing is right… and when the timing isn’t right I think it is silly to limit yourself and not allow yourself to have an amazing person in your life that adds value and perspective to your world. So as I find myself sitting on my couch trying to make the most creative and accurate profile. I realize I am creating a representation of what I believe is appealing to others. Then I realize I am wasting my time. On these Apps I am going to run into two types of men. The first type will be a stranger who is not ready for a relationship. But they are happy to connect on a physical level. The second type is going to be a stranger that will jump into a relationship with just anyone. I do not want to be in either of those situations. So I am officially taking myself out of the world of Tinder. Ironically I have to be Grateful for Tinder I do have to say that I am grateful for Tinder. I have met some really great men through this silly App that have become friends. But I do find that these forms of communication create unrealistic expectations of who a person is. I don’t want my value based upon my best photos, a well written profile with creative usage of emojis, or on my witty text messaging techniques. I have learned about many types of men and realized that they go through the same struggles as I do. No one is perfect. However, still single, I find the pattern continues as I continue to go back on Tinder. Before I meet a person, I already decide based on their texting practices if they are good for me or not. Also, there seems to be an automatic assumption from my male counterparts- that physical intimacy is going to happen. As if it is almost like an obligation. I find that on an emotional level I tend to go in with a pre-conceived idea of how this person is going to treat me. I assume they are going to make me feel great. As well – I find myself hopeful that it will be successful. **However, after each of these dates I realize I do not want this to be my story.** Be in Charge of Your Life Story I don’t want to have forced an interaction to occur for a relationship to form. I was forced into forming a relationship to once and it did not end well. As a single person, when you are not ready to truly move on to a new relationship, those walls will come up. I can feel it almost instantly 10 minutes into a date. I am beginning to understand why men …right off the bat… state their relationship unavailability. *I am scared though.* What if one day I am ready and someone who makes my heart melt and knees weak tells me that they are not? That risk is something that I don’t feel strong enough to go through again. This leaves me scared and closed off to love. **But when I did open up to love…** I loved with my whole heart. There are only a few men that I have had in my life who I have felt completely open to sharing myself. Those connections were automatic and completely unforced. Unfortunately those men were not able to stay in my life for as long as I would have loved them to. Even though they had to leave, they all taught me strength, understanding, and patience. For that I am grateful. Those qualities are what I am bringing into my single life and even though the social rule is to join a dating app and connect with people through there – I am and forever will be a sucker for that real Cinderella story. *Everyone enters your life for a reason* I believe that everyone comes into your life for a reason. Forcing those connections is never the way to do it. I just want someone to meet me and be certain they want to have me in their life as much as I am certain I want them. I don’t want that decision based on my best photos. Or on a well written profile with creative usage of emojis, or my witty text messaging techniques. I want to be wanted for me. The me that talks non-stop about many topics at once. A girl who is shy, laughs all the time, and loves making weird faces. Those things you cannot learn through the elevator speeches we all give online. One cannot fall in love based on a person’s skill at playing the technology dating game. So now… I have deleted the applications and I vow to just continue living my life without force. I love going to events in my community. I enjoy socializing with many people. Moreover, I am stay busy creating a wonderful network full of supportive and hilarious individuals. I can’t think of anything more satisfying than just continuing doing me. When the timing is right that person will enter or re-enter my life. Then hopefully that man will have the courage to do what everyone used to have to do back before we had smartphones. They will have to have the bravery necessary to be vulnerable and fight for the girl they know they want and deserve in their life. *And while I patiently wait for that moment… I find the key is to breathe, let go, and trust that the universe has my back – everytime <3* *Sincerely,* **Just another Millennial on the search for a happy, healthy, and sustainable lifestyle ♥** |

What I take from the whole “I am not ready” thing is that what they really are saying is I don’t want to make you a priority… Its almost a slap in the face saying that before they even get to know you they automatically assume you want them and are willing to sacrifice yourself to be with them.\n\n*Timing is Everything… and Tinder is ruining It*\n\nI personally am not ready for a relationship either but I do believe that if I meet someone and there is a sense of comfort and a space provided where I can be myself… then why put up stupid barriers. You know from the moment you meet someone whether it is going to be something more. These tinder dates are interesting. Text messaging conversations can be great and you create this idea of who you think you are going to find when you meet face-to-face. However, the majority of the time it is the opposite to what you expect.\n\nThe majority of the time it is a disappointment… for both parties. And sometimes… you meet someone who you had no expectations for and they come in and turn your world upside down. Really – you just don’t know what you are going to get. We are all fighting the natural unravelling of time. Timing is everything and Tinder is ruining our Cinderella stories because we are being forced to meet our Prince Charming (or Beautiful Princess) at the wrong time in our lives.\n\n**Keep the ones who make you feel like you**\n\nIt is completely possible to enjoy someone’s presence and want to spend time with them but you cannot FORCE a relationship to occur. I am a strong believer that a relationship occurs naturally when the timing is right… and when the timing isn’t right I think it is silly to limit yourself and not allow yourself to have an amazing person in your life that adds value and perspective to your world.\n\nSo as I find myself sitting on my couch trying to make the most creative and accurate profile. I realize I am creating a representation of what I believe is appealing to others. Then I realize I am wasting my time. On these Apps I am going to run into two types of men. The first type will be a stranger who is not ready for a relationship. But they are happy to connect on a physical level. The second type is going to be a stranger that will jump into a relationship with just anyone. I do not want to be in either of those situations. So I am officially taking myself out of the world of Tinder.\n\nIronically I have to be Grateful for Tinder\nI do have to say that I am grateful for Tinder. I have met some really great men through this silly App that have become friends. But I do find that these forms of communication create unrealistic expectations of who a person is.\n\n\n\nI don’t want my value based upon my best photos, a well written profile with creative usage of emojis, or on my witty text messaging techniques.\n \nI have learned about many types of men and realized that they go through the same struggles as I do. No one is perfect. However, still single, I find the pattern continues as I continue to go back on Tinder. Before I meet a person, I already decide based on their texting practices if they are good for me or not. Also, there seems to be an automatic assumption from my male counterparts- that physical intimacy is going to happen. As if it is almost like an obligation. I find that on an emotional level I tend to go in with a pre-conceived idea of how this person is going to treat me. I assume they are going to make me feel great. As well – I find myself hopeful that it will be successful.\n\n**However, after each of these dates I realize I do not want this to be my story.**\n\nBe in Charge of Your Life Story\nI don’t want to have forced an interaction to occur for a relationship to form. I was forced into forming a relationship to once and it did not end well. As a single person, when you are not ready to truly move on to a new relationship, those walls will come up. I can feel it almost instantly 10 minutes into a date. I am beginning to understand why men …right off the bat… state their relationship unavailability.\n\n*I am scared though.*\n\nWhat if one day I am ready and someone who makes my heart melt and knees weak tells me that they are not? That risk is something that I don’t feel strong enough to go through again. This leaves me scared and closed off to love.\n\n**But when I did open up to love…**\n\nI loved with my whole heart. There are only a few men that I have had in my life who I have felt completely open to sharing myself. Those connections were automatic and completely unforced. Unfortunately those men were not able to stay in my life for as long as I would have loved them to. Even though they had to leave, they all taught me strength, understanding, and patience. For that I am grateful. Those qualities are what I am bringing into my single life and even though the social rule is to join a dating app and connect with people through there – I am and forever will be a sucker for that real Cinderella story.\n\n*Everyone enters your life for a reason*\n\nI believe that everyone comes into your life for a reason. Forcing those connections is never the way to do it. I just want someone to meet me and be certain they want to have me in their life as much as I am certain I want them. I don’t want that decision based on my best photos. Or on a well written profile with creative usage of emojis, or my witty text messaging techniques. I want to be wanted for me. The me that talks non-stop about many topics at once. A girl who is shy, laughs all the time, and loves making weird faces. Those things you cannot learn through the elevator speeches we all give online. One cannot fall in love based on a person’s skill at playing the technology dating game.\n\nSo now… I have deleted the applications and I vow to just continue living my life without force. I love going to events in my community. I enjoy socializing with many people. Moreover, I am stay busy creating a wonderful network full of supportive and hilarious individuals. I can’t think of anything more satisfying than just continuing doing me. When the timing is right that person will enter or re-enter my life. Then hopefully that man will have the courage to do what everyone used to have to do back before we had smartphones.
