She currently serves as Director of the Artemisinin Research Center at the Institute of Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. Over the past six decades, she has devoted herself wholeheartedly to research and practice in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), leading her team through formidable challenges to discover artemisinin—a breakthrough that resolved the global crisis of drug-resistant malaria. Her work has made profound contributions to the scientific advancement of TCM and to global public health. In 2015, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. \n\n   Artemisinin is a highly effective antimalarial compound, demonstrating 100% inhibition against *Plasmodium falciparum*, the parasite responsible for malignant malaria, and has significantly reduced malaria-related mortality worldwide. \n\nThe television drama *The Gift from Tu Youyou* metaphorically portrays artemisinin—the life-saving compound discovered by Tu Youyou—as a precious gift she bestowed upon humanity. Yet, beyond this tangible contribution, I believe the intangible spirit embodied by Tu Youyou—her unwavering detachment from fame and material gain, her quiet integrity amid worldly distractions, and her forthright, principled candor—constitutes an even more enduring gift to humanity: one worthy of collective recognition, deep appreciation, and thoughtful emulation. \n\nI once watched a documentary chronicling Tu Youyou’s early career; regrettably, I no longer recall its title. In the film, the young Tu Youyou is depicted wearing glasses and walking with a reserved, self-assured demeanor. She rarely initiated greetings—even when encountering colleagues or superiors—and was colloquially labeled “all kinds” (a northern Chinese dialect expression implying eccentricity or social aloofness, often carrying a mildly pejorative connotation—for instance, “He’s really *all kinds*—no one can get along with him”). Some colleagues humorously remarked, “If Tu Youyou ever turns around and greets you, you’ll probably jump in surprise.” I do not regard Tu Youyou as arrogant or indifferent toward others. What she lacked was not respect for her peers, but rather conventional preoccupation with interpersonal niceties.\n\nI once saw a video about Tu Youyou's story. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of that video. In the video, the young Tu Youyou wore glasses and walked with an air of superiority. She never greeted her colleagues or even superiors when she met them and was called \"all kinds of\" (in the northern dialect, it means someone with strange and difficult personality, often with a derogatory connotation, such as \"This person is really all kinds, can't get along with anyone\"). Some colleagues even joked, \"If one day Tu Youyou turns around and greets you, you might be startled.\"\n\nI don't think Tu Youyou was arrogant or indifferent to others. What she lacked was not a lack of respect for others, but her indifference to human relationships, even her hatred of the ways of the world. She was always thinking about work-related matters, and her indifference to human relationships naturally made her reluctant to engage in those insincere greetings. Just like mathematician Chen Jingrun, who was always thinking about mathematical problems even while walking, bumping into a tree, he wouldn't know it and would say \"Sorry,\" thinking he had run into someone. Only such a person would devote everything to their career and have no time for interpersonal relationships.\n\nTu Youyou was outspoken in her work and dared to say \"Science only emphasizes practicality and should not be based on seniority\" when facing authorities. She once walked away angrily when there was a disagreement. She had no interest in workplace socializing, didn't flatter or curry favor with leaders, and didn't act according to the leader's mood. In the eyes of others, she was stubborn. Tu Youyou refused worldly fame and fortune and failed to be elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences several times. Even after winning the Nobel Prize, she was still questioned about \"not socially adept.\" She lived in extreme poverty throughout her life and had a very simple lifestyle.\n\nA person's energy is limited. If one is constantly busy with socializing and interpersonal relationships, always looking at the wind to decide what to do, always following the leader's mood, lacking one's own opinions, and even using flattery and pleasing others; if one likes to pursue fame and fortune, what can such a person bring to the world?\n\nNothing. Such a person is just a speck of dust, eventually disappearing in the long river of history. But people like Tu Youyou will create huge wealth for human society and bring good news to the world.\n\n\n屠呦呦，女，汉族，中共党员，1930年12月生，浙江宁波人，中国中医科学院中药研究所青蒿素研究中心主任。她60多年致力于中医药研究实践，带领团队攻坚克难，研究发现了青蒿素，解决了抗疟治疗失效难题，为中医药科技创新和人类健康事业作出巨大贡献。2015年获诺贝尔生理学或医学奖。青蒿素是一种高效抗疟药物，对恶性疟原虫抑制率达100%，显著降低全球疟疾死亡率 。\n\n电视剧《屠呦呦的礼物》，把屠呦呦发现的青蒿素比作是她献给人类世界的一份礼物。可我觉得屠呦呦身上的那种精神——淡泊名利、淡漠人情世故、直言不讳，更是献给世人的礼物，值得所有人收藏、观赏、学习。\n\n我曾看到一个视频，讲的就是屠呦呦的故事，可惜我已不记得那个视频的名字了。视频中，年轻的屠呦呦戴着一副眼镜，走路“目中无人”，见到同事甚至领导从不主动打招呼，被同事称为“各色” (在北方方言里形容人性格古怪、不好相处，带点贬义，比如“这个人真各色，跟谁都说不到一块儿”。) 有的同事甚至调侃说：“如果哪一天，屠呦呦走个对面跟你打招呼，说不定会吓你一跳。”\n\n我不认为是屠呦呦高傲冷漠，看不起别人，而是她人际关系淡漠，甚至说是对人情世故讨厌的很。她满脑子在思考着工作上的事情，加之对人际关系的淡漠，自然就懒得搞那些虚情假意的问候了。就像数学家陈景润那样，一直在思索数学难题，即使走着路也在思考，碰到了树上也不知，还要忙说声“对不起”，以为自己撞到了别人。也唯有这样的人才会把自己的一切投身到事业之中，哪有闲心思搞人际关系呢？\n\n屠呦呦工作中直言不讳，面对权威敢说“科学只讲究实事求是，不该论资排辈”；曾因意见不合直接甩脸子走人。对职场应酬毫无兴趣，不会溜须拍马，更不会迎合领导，看领导的脸色行事，在别人的眼里，她就是一根筋。\n\n屠呦呦拒绝世俗名利，多次申请中国科学院院士未果，即便获诺奖后仍被质疑“不会来事”；一生清贫，生活极简。\n\n一个人的精力是有限的，如果整日里忙于应酬、搞人际关系；凡事看风使舵、看领导的脸色行事，没有自己的见解，甚至花言巧语，奉承巴结；喜欢追名逐利，那这样的人能够给世界带来什么呢？\n\n什么也没有，这样的人不过是一粒尘埃，终会淹没在历史的长河里。而像屠呦呦那样的人才会为人类社会创造巨大的财富，才会为世界人类带来福音。\n\n\n![640.webp](https://img.blurt.blog/blurtimage/bring/d37567431486d790637fbd71e53799bb89cc0443.webp)",
